Laval: Where the La Toxica Story Began
The La Toxica story did not begin behind a Montreal storefront. It began in Laval with Rosa Castellanos, a family birria recipe and a small rented kitchen in Fabreville.

A recipe finds its audience
In January 2021, Rosa Castellanos began sharing her grandmother’s recipes from Laval. Birria taco orders grew after a Tizzo post went viral, but the work was already there: weekend production, slowly simmered broth and family knowledge passed from one generation to the next.
To meet demand, Rosa rented the former Hot Dog MontRougeau kitchen in Fabreville. We do not present that kitchen as a current La Toxica address. It was the starting workshop where a Laval idea gathered enough momentum to open the first restaurant at 7221 Saint-Hubert Street in July 2022.

Laval is part of our history, not our list of addresses. To taste Rosa’s cooking today, choose one of our two real Montreal restaurants. Plaza Saint-Hubert is generally the closer option from Laval; check your route before leaving.

La Toxica’s growth keeps family transmission at its centre: Rosa’s grandmother’s recipes, generous hospitality and Mexican cooking made to be shared.
