Group Dinner Montreal: Booking La Toxica for Your Party

Group Dinner Montreal: Booking La Toxica for Your Party

La Toxica is a family-run Mexican taqueria in Montréal that hosts group dinners two ways: you reserve a table at one of our two restaurants, or you book taco-bar catering when the party is too big for a dining room. Rosa Castellanos opened La Toxica in 2022 in Villeray, at Plaza Saint-Hubert, and the shared-plate menu is built for a table that wants to pass food around. Birria with its consommé, carnitas and al pastor all suit a crowd.

Where can you have a group dinner in Montreal?

A good group dinner in Montreal depends on more than seat count. The room has to let people talk, and the kitchen has to send food out in a way that keeps everyone eating together. Tacos suit that well, because plates are meant to be shared and nobody waits on one person’s order.

La Toxica has two restaurants. The Plaza Saint-Hubert restaurant is at 7221 rue Saint-Hubert, in the Villeray and Little Italy area near métro Jean-Talon. The Chinatown Saint-Laurent restaurant is at 1059 boul. Saint-Laurent, near métro Saint-Laurent and Place-d’Armes. Its entrance is on the upper floor, separate from the ground floor, so tell your group before the night.

Street parking nearby is paid and limited, and there are paid lots in the area, so many groups prefer transit.

How do you book a group table at La Toxica?

Start with the online reservation page, and tell us your party size and the date you want. If you would rather talk it through, call Plaza Saint-Hubert at 514 277-1111 or Chinatown Saint-Laurent at 438 380-8995.

A few things make a group booking go smoothly:

  • Choose the location that is easiest for most of your guests to reach.
  • Book early for Friday and Saturday nights, which are our busiest.
  • Name one person to be the contact for the whole group.
  • Mention any allergies when you reserve, and again when you order.

Our hours differ by location, and the Chinatown restaurant is closed on Mondays, so check the location pages before you pick a day.

What should a group share at a Mexican restaurant?

Order for the table rather than for each person. Our menu is easy to share, and a few dishes do most of the work.

Birria and consommé

Birria is Rosa’s grandmother’s recipe, and it went viral in 2021. Slow-cooked meat arrives with a cup of rich consommé for dipping, and a group of people dunking tacos into the same broth makes a good dinner. See the birria tacos page for more on the dish.

Choriqueso, carnitas and al pastor

Choriqueso, which is chorizo with melted cheese, is a natural starter to scoop up with warm tortillas. Carnitas bring tender pork with crisp edges, and al pastor adds the sweet, savoury note of marinated pork with pineapple. Together with birria, they cover most tastes at the table. Browse the full menu before you decide.

Vegetarian guests

Vegetarian options are on the menu, so a mixed group does not have to split up. Ask your server to point you to them.

How does taco-bar catering work for a big group?

When the party outgrows a dining room, La Toxica works as a traiteur. A taco bar lets guests build their own tacos at their own pace, so nobody waits for a plated course. Our catering formats include at home, taco bar, lunch boxes, buffet, weddings, corporate and private events, with birria, al pastor, carnitas and vegetarian choices.

What a quote depends on is simple: guest count, format, meats and extras. We do not publish a price list, so send a quote request and note any allergies there.

Want us to come to you? The food truck serves Greater Montréal, and we confirm capacity and electrical needs for each quote. Use the food truck quote form to start.

Are there group deals at La Toxica?

We run weekly promos for dine-in guests only, not delivery. Tuesday and Wednesday offer all-you-can-eat tacos for 25,99 $ per person. Thursday has slush margaritas for 5,99 $ in strawberry, mango and lime. Friday has shooters for 1 $. Alcohol is for guests aged eighteen and over. See the promotions page for current details.

What about allergies and dietary needs?

Corn tortillas are the base of our tacos, but our kitchen also handles wheat. Tell the staff about any allergy when you order, and we will help you choose. We cannot promise gluten-free dishes or the absence of cross-contamination.
